How I Started Calisthenics

Before calisthenics, I was a middle-distance runner. Training with my team built my discipline early on, reaching its peak when I represented Yuen Long District in the Hong Kong Games. Standing on that stage humbled me and opened my eyes to a much bigger world.

After university, without a running club, I pivoted to bodyweight training alongside my partner. Back then, our favorite date was working out at Yuen Long Park. No matter how hot it got, I stayed by his side, cheering him on and filming his reps.

There, we met a group of local fitness masters training on just two pull-up bars. They showed incredible street wisdom with simple hacks, like wrapping paper towel rolls around the bar to create a slippery surface and challenge grip strength. It proved that real talent was hiding right there in plain sight. They warmly invited me to try, inspiring me to face my weak upper-body strength head on.

Their contagious passion created a corner in the park filled with sweat, constant encouragement, and selfless knowledge-sharing. Though time flew and everyone eventually went their separate ways, I still miss those spontaneous Sundays. I believe we will meet again.

Now as a fitness coach, I strive to pass down the raw street wisdom and supportive spirit born in that park to everyone I train.
