Always Can Do Better: DAILYCALI Journey inspired by Benjamin/肌本野

You always need a big brother you can look up to as a role model so that you can stay on course and go further.

I am truly grateful to have met Benjamin along this journey.

Calisthenics and Me:

Benjamin wasn't the first person I learned from, or hard to say it really be called "we met" because a full 7 years passed between our first time seeing each other and our first actual conversation.

My first encounter with calisthenics was at Pui Shing Road Garden in Hang Hau back in 2017. Passionate, incredibly cool, and mind-blowing—that was my initial impression of the sport. I still still remember some of the big brothers and cool moves. "I really want to become like them": holding onto this thought, I began my daily training.

This gradually opened up my exploration of the sport. I started reading more information, following forum and videos about it, and began feeling that I belonged to this community as well.

If I were to use music as an analogy today, Simon from Barkids represents the flow of a song, with his skill tutorials embodying my initial inspiration.

Benjamin and 肌本野, on the other hand, is the creative vision behind the album; Benjamin inspired me to embark on the path of sports education, paving the way for DAILYCALI to go all in ever since.

Benjamin and Me:

Going back to the summer of 2017, it was the annual Street Workout Reps & Sets Competition. As a beginner back then, I attended the event as an audience to support my friends.

Unsurprisingly, Benjamin was also one of the competitors, at the peak of his form. His gaze was always the sharpest of all, making him hard to not being noticed. You could hear people around whispering about him—he is a person.

What was even more intense was that even though he hadn't lost, he was dissatisfied with his results. My first impression of him was seeing him standing under the bar reflecting in frustration after the competition finished (and needing Joanne to soothe him).

This left a profound impression on me. When I got home, I searched online to find out who Benjamin was. From then on, I became a reader of 肌本野 , Sportsroad, and Sportsoho columns. During those years, observing Benjamin allowed sports education to flow into my blood, convincing me that this is the true meaning of sports.

Later, I understood the value of self-reflection and advocating universal values, and my personal ideas began to sprout in 2021.

肌本野 and DAILYCALI:

When DAILYCALI was just starting out, 肌本野 was already a famous term.

Because of this, even though supporters told me DAILYCALI's philosophy aligned closely with Benjamin's, I didn't dare claim so. I knew I wasn't good enough yet and decided to keep quietly putting in the work. If fate existed, our paths would cross eventually.

Four years later (late 2024), I received a message from Benjamin expressing his appreciation and curiosity, which led to our first meeting. To me, it felt like receiving a long-awaited reply. When you project effort and positive energy out into the world, someone will eventually see it.

The best part? The person who noticed was the very role model you looked up to all along. Can you imagine how I felt at that moment?

At this very moment, DAILYCALI and 肌本野 have merged into one, aligning our visions and shared aspirations.

On the operational side, Benjamin reshaped the entire curriculum design while also supporting the career development of up and coming coaches. He has also become my designated weekly coffee companion. Almost every day, we discuss educational strategies, review teaching material, reflect on ourselves, and share everyday family moments.

People have asked me: How did you convince Benjamin to join? Others asked: Since both of you were already solid on your own, why together?

This article might have already answered everything:

(1) 肌本野 has always been the soul of DAILYCALI. I might be the young leader, but he will always be the big brother.

We will keep getting better and better.

Here, I would also like to take this opportunity to bless my youth era, expressing my heartfelt gratitude to the different heroes along this journey and everyone who encouraged me. Without you all, I am nobody.
